BIOGRAPHY

In 2000, I earned my baccalaureate degree in nursing with honors from North Carolina A & T State University. I hold a master’s degree in nursing from the University of Phoenix. In 2007, it was an honor to become certified by the American Nurse Credentialing Center in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing. In 2014 and 2016 it was an honor to teach as an International Guest Lecturer of Mental Health Nursing for Hubei University, China. My most recent of 4 eBook’s is Nurse-Mental Health RN Study Guide and Specialty Reviewand I hold the title of Editor in Chief with StatPearls. In 2019 I became an Editorial Reviewer for the Teaching and Learning in Nursing Journal. At the present time I hold the esteemed role of Mental Health Nursing Course Lead Faculty with Purdue University Global.

As I embark into my twentieth year in the profession of nursing, I hold diverse experience in the following areas; psychiatric mental health nursing, public/community health nursing, nursing faculty, RN-BSN CBE regional coordinator, mental health nursing theory and clinical coordinator for 2 universities. My professional nursing experience is also inclusive of the following practice settings; charge nurse within in-patient adult/pediatric units, outpatient mental health/community support ACT team nurse, psychiatric crisis emergency services lead nurse, lead methadone/detox nurse, injection clinic lead nurse, mental health nurse case manager, and geropsychiatric clinic nurse. As a community health nurse, I served the Guilford County Public Health Department’s Nurse-Family Partnership Program as a Maternity Care Coordinator, control and intervention HILDA (Reducing Depressive Symptoms in Head Start Mothers) research nurse in collaboration with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Nursing NIH research grant.

As a Clinical Associate Professor/Mental Health Nursing Course/Clinical/Simulation Coordinator at North Carolina A & T University School of Nursing and the Winston Salem State University Division of Nursing, I developed/instructed the following courses on-ground and online; psychiatric mental health nursing didactic course coordinator, psychiatric mental health clinical course coordinator, health assessment, foundations of nursing, nursing orientation, adult health lab, senior capstone course, bridge to professional practice, and foundational lab courses.

I’m passionate about transforming higher education via innovative curriculum pathways in RN-BSN, pre-licensure, and graduate nursing programs. I hold a decade of experience in teaching nursing education via didactic and clinical face-to-face, hybrid, online, and via competency-based education (CBE). I recently design/teach 10 online/competency-based education courses for a reputable RN-BSN program, hold experience in online and CBE curriculum design as the present CBE Program Coordinator, and I offer program implementation experience. In reference to scholarship, I proudly note that I am published with Sigma Theta Tau International and more in greater than 100 countries via articles, book chapter, and my model of mentoring nursing students from a holistic perspective. In my previous role as an online professor in Community Health Nursing Subject Matter Expert, I worked full-time online for 4 years.

Funded by the North Carolina Community College System and the Carl D. Perkins

Career and Technical Act of 2006

The Winston-Salem State University Division of Nursing aims to support the Institute of Medicines plight to build the quantity of baccalaureate (BSN) nurses in the United States. North Carolina is not an exception, as a perilous shortage of BSN prepared nurses continues to be present in the state. In September 2016, the North Carolina Community College System awarded the Winston-Salem State University Division of Nursing the esteemed RN to BSN Competency-Based Education (CBE) Grant. The CBE Grant is funded from the state leadership portion of the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act of 2006. Key components of the approach to redesigning the curriculum to the CBE model will be discussed. The unique collaborative partnerships with local community college nursing programs, understanding innovative delivery methodologies, faculty curricula competency-building styles, and state-of-the-art approaches to course design via a supportive Learning Management System were key components of overall program’s development.
